The Net Zero StandardCarbon credits still fund vital climate projects, but credible organisations now describe them differently. Rather than claiming to cancel emissions, they measure and reduce first, then use credits to take responsibility for what remains and contribute to climate solutions. New EU rules and ISO 14068-1 are accelerating this shift.

Taking responsibility for residual emissions is a vital part of climate action. For organisations ready to take the next step, the Carbon Footprint Net Zero Standard provides a complete, credible framework for your entire journey — the definitive pathway for businesses serious about achieving their climate goals with integrity.
A carbon credit is a verified certificate representing one tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) reduced or removed from the atmosphere by a climate project. Each credit has a unique serial number on a public registry and is retired when used, so it can never be sold twice.
Credits are issued under recognised standards such as Gold Standard, Verra (VCS) and the Climate Action Reserve. Independent auditors check each project's emission reductions or removals against its approved methodology before any credits are issued.
CRISP is Carbon Footprint’s free, independent rating system for carbon credit projects. It scores each project on additionality, permanence, measurement and verification, leakage and ICVCM CCP status, so you can see its strengths and risks before you buy.
The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) sets the Core Carbon Principles (CCPs), a global benchmark for high-integrity carbon credits. CCP-approved credits come from methodologies the ICVCM has assessed as meeting that benchmark.
When you buy through the Carbon Marketplace, your credits are retired on the project's registry in your name. You receive an instant certificate and a public Proof of Impact link that you can share with customers and stakeholders.
Prices depend on project type, location, vintage and quality.
